Hi,

I have a PC which has Windows XP Pro 64bit installed.

I've down loaded the 64bit installation of Oracle 10g, but I'm not sure which options to use during the install.

The application which will run on the PC is normally installed using an installation CD which has the option to install Oracle 32bit or MSDE. Once the selected database and application options have been selected the installation installs Oracle and then goes onto run the required scripts for the application; create database, schema's etc.

I have all the scripts available for the application, but how can I, or what do I need to do to install Oracle up to a stage where by I can then proceed to run my scripts?

Should you require any further information or have any questions regarding the above, please let me know.

Regards

I might be wrong, but
Quote:
application (...) installation CD which has the option to install Oracle
and
Quote:
what do I need to do to install Oracle
are somewhat contradictory.

Why would you pre-install Oracle database if this "application installation CD" already does the same?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I'll try and explain my question/problem a bit more clearly...

The application CD I have installs Oracle 10g 32bit configures and builds the database and then goes on to install the rest of the application.

This CD is fine for Windows 32bit, however, in this particular case the PC is running a 64bit version of Windows, so the version of Oracle on the CD is incompatable and doesn't install.

To over come this I require Oracle 10g 64bit installed.

I've donwloaded the 64bit version of Oracle required, and what I want/need to do is install it myself and then once done run the remaining scripts etc and install the application files manually.

What I'm not sure of is the options I need to choose when installing Oracle myself so I can then manually carry out the rest myself.

I hope that makes my question/query a bit more clear?

Regards

Perfectly clear Smile

Unless there are special requirements, I'd probably install the "Typical" configuration (i.e. let Oracle Universal Installer do the job). Pay attention to Installer's questions, don't forget to make notes about usernames and matching passwords, as well as other information.

You'll, though, probably have to manually create a schema (unless you can start the "application installation" from that point). It is done by using the CREATE USER statement. Don't forget to check required privileges (perhaps you can find them on a CD?) because - without granting them to the newly created user, installation script(s) will not be able to connect to the database, nor create objects in this schema.

Hi,

I've managed to install Oracle and run the required scripts needed for my application.

However, whne I try and start my app I get the following message: -

Unable to load DLL: 'OraOps.dll': The specified module could not be found.
I've checked in the 'bin' directory and it's not there?

Any ideas how I can resolve this, is it because I didn't have an oracle client installed during the Oracle install?

This is what I though it was, so I tried installing a client, but the proble still exists and in fact the file isn't present on the PC after installing the client?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

I don't think so. Oracle database doesn't require Oracle client in order to be successfully installed.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what is or where you could find OraOps.dll. I don't have it either (having Oracle 10g installed). Did you try to locate it on the (application) installation CD?

That OraOps.dll is part of ODP.NET, a .NET data provider for Oracle, which might be some additional install that is not included in the standard installation.

ODP.NET FAQ

Hi,

Thank you both for the replies.

Firstly let me say sorry, it was OraOps10.dll that isn't found not OraOps.dll

I have installed ODP.NET for x64bit and this doesn't resolve the issue.

The file installed is 'OraOps10w.dll' and not 'OraOps10.dll'.

Now I'm stumped Sad

Thanks & Regards

OK, here it is. OraOps10.dll resides in C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\BIN directory (note that this is path on my computer; yours might be slightly different (the first part of it)). Its size is 324 KB (Oracle 10.2.0.1.0).

Hi,

Have just tried this and even re-booted the PC.

I don't get the error regarding the missing dll, but instead I get: -

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Anyideas?

Regards

Ideas

Most of them point to .net permission problems.

Hi,

Thanks for the ideas link, looking at one of the links it mentioned using the Microsoft ADO.NET driver instead of the Oracle 10g one.

Fortunately our app can use either, so I changed it to use the MS one and all is good.

Thank you to everyone who has spent time looking at this, appreciate it.

Thanks & Best Regards
