Am having my Oracle on D drive. Now I need to format my Operating System that is on C drive.
Do I need to re-install Oracle again.

Which of the windows operating system is better for Oracle 11g Release 1.
Windows Service Pack 3, Windows 7 or any other OS.

If you reformat the system and reinstall Windows you lose your registry and so all information about installed products. So yes, you have to reinstall Oracle.
But you have not to recreate the databases if they reside on other disks. YOu just have to recreate the associated services using oradim command.

Michel

So I need to re-install oracle like overwriting without making any modifications on drive D.

Also please let me know the OS version for better performance.

I don't know. I don't think the choice of the OS is a matter of performances but rather of your entreprise standard choice in this matter.

If performance is your primary concern... you are using the wrong OS.

I think the only OS I like less than Windows is VMS. Thank god that pile of **** is on it's way out of the industry.

Point of note. If you were running on Linux (lets say OEL. Since I assume you want one easy to use and setup for free) you would not need to reinstall Oracle after wiping out your C: drive (however that is mounted over in OEL).

Anyway..

Oh? I loved VMS. And Oracle on VMS. And users using Oracle on VMS. (True, that was a decade ago.)

We used to use VMS for flight control systems at the Europen Space Agency. I learnt then that Unix is rubbish for anything real-time, particularly when combined with ethernet: you can never be certain when anything will actually happen. That was way back in the last century, though.
